Course Introduction

This course provides students with the technical skills and knowledge in first line maintenance work, carry out planned maintenance, and undertake servicing work on air-conditioning systems, plumbing and firefighting and fire protection systems, amenities, fittings and fixtures, to ensure optimum functioning of building facilities. This programme includes a bridging component (of up to three months) for SGUS applicants who have been assessed to require this component.


Course Outline

The course for Be a Built Environment Specialist comprises of modules of

(i) Electrical Services, to learn how to prepare electrical circuit diagrams, install trunkings and lighting circuits, replace and rectify lighting fittings, as well as circuits and power circuit.

(ii) Residential Air-Conditioning Services, to learn the set up refrigeration system, install, inspect and maintain air conditioners, replace and rectify faulty components and refrigerants, as well as perform testing and commissioning of air-conditioning equipment

(iii) Piping and Plumbing Services, to learn to fabricate and install piping system, replace and repair water supply and sanitary piping systems and components, as well as clear pipe and drain chokes,

(iv) CoC in Residential Air-Conditioning System (Refrigerant), to learn specific methods for installation / maintenance of air-conditioners including recovery of refrigerant

(v) CoC in Fire Protection System, to learn how to inspect hose reel and riser systems, sprinkler systems, and fire extinguishers

(vi) Project module to integrate the performance / practice of skillsets gathered from the above modules.The bridging component comprise of (a) Workplace Literacy (WPL) and/or Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Training Programmes, (b) Digital Literacy Programmes such as Digital Learning Beginner Workshop (DLBW) and SkillsFuture for Digital Workplace (SFDW) and (c) Financial Literacy course. The Financial Literacy course is an Optional module for SGUS participants who require bridging. Please note that the bridging component will be offered by a SSG approved external partner identified by the Institute of Technical Education.
